IGI 2025 National Coordination Meeting (RAKORNAS)
The National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) of the Indonesian Geographers Association (IGI) constitutes a strategic national agenda convened regularly as a forum for consolidation and coordination within the IGI organization. Rakornas is designed to unify policy directions, enhance synergy between the central and regional boards, and address national strategic issues pertinent to the field of geography. This event provides a crucial opportunity for all IGI board members, across central, regional, and branch levels, to engage, exchange information, and formulate collective strategies to advance the geography profession in Indonesia.
Through Rakornas, IGI fortifies its role in supporting geospatial-based national development and augments the tangible contributions of geographers across various sectors, including education, spatial planning, disaster management, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development. Rakornas also functions as a platform to evaluate ongoing work programs, draft future strategic plans, and strengthen organizational governance to be more adaptive and responsive to contemporary challenges.
In general, IGI’s Rakornas aims to:
- Align the organization’s vision, mission, and policy direction between the central and regional boards;
- Assess and evaluate the implementation of work programs and organizational strategic achievements;
- Prepare and ratify work plans and national policy recommendations relevant to geographical issues;
- Strengthen IGI’s institutional capacity and collaborative networks at both national and international levels; and
- Increase IGI’s role in advocating for development policies based on geospatial data and sustainability principles.
The 2025 Rakornas is scheduled to be held in an offline and hybrid format at the University of Jember on October 15, 2025. The event will be accompanied by an international conference showcasing the latest research findings, as well as the launch of IGI’s strategic programs. With a spirit of collaboration and participation, Rakornas is anticipated to yield applicable policy formulations and reinforce IGI’s standing as the professional organization for geographers in Indonesia.
